The bZ4X lineup in Australia spans four grades. 2WD is the entry point at $55,990, with a single front motor. AWD steps up to $67,990, adding a second motor for all-wheel drive. AWD - Two Tone Roof lists at $69,340 for the same drivetrain with a styling option, and Touring AWD tops the range at $69,990.

All four are electric mid-size SUVs on the same 4-door wagon body; the practical difference is drivetrain (single-motor FWD on 2WD, dual-motor AWD on the other three) plus equipment level across the AWD grades.

Pros

• Comfortably clear of the luxury car tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles, so eligibility for the full FBT exemption is not in doubt before April 2027.

Cons

• Touring AWD's $74,997 drive-away estimate sits right at the $75,000 line that starts to matter from April 2027 — a small increase in on-road costs could push a specific build over it.
• Power output and seating configuration are not yet published for the bZ4X in this guide — confirm these directly with a dealer before deciding between grades.

Battery electric vehicles under the luxury car tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles ($91,387, rising to $91,661 from 1 July 2026) are exempt from fringe benefits tax when packaged through a novated lease. That exemption is being phased out in two steps.

• Until 31 March 2027 — full exemption, unchanged, for any bZ4X grade under the luxury car tax threshold.
• From 1 April 2027 — full exemption continues only for electric vehicles under $75,000. Above that, up to the luxury car tax threshold, a 25% FBT discount applies instead.
• From 1 April 2029 — the full exemption ends. A 25% discount applies to all eligible vehicles.

Leases already in place are grandfathered: a lease entered into before a phase start date keeps its treatment for the term.

Where each grade sits: 2WD, AWD and AWD - Two Tone Roof are all under $75,000 on both RRP and drive-away, keeping the full exemption through the April 2027 change. Touring AWD lists at $69,990 RRP but $74,997 drive-away — under the line, but close enough that on-road cost variation by state could tip a specific quote over it. Confirm the final drive-away figure for your state before assuming the full exemption applies from April 2027 onward.
