Pros

  • Both grades sit well under the $75,000 EV FBT full-exemption line and the $91,387 luxury car tax threshold, keeping the full novated lease exemption in play through the phase-out.
  • A sub-$30,000 entry price makes the COMPLETE grade one of the more affordable electric hatchbacks available new in Australia.
  • The two-grade range keeps the choice simple: COMPLETE for the lower price, INSPIRE for extra equipment.

Cons

  • Only two grades are offered, with no dual-motor, all-wheel-drive, or extended-range option.
  • Power output and seating configuration are not yet published for the Geely EX2 in this guide — confirm these directly with a dealer before deciding between grades.

Will your Geely EX2 keep its FBT exemption?

Battery electric vehicles under the luxury car tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles ($91,387, rising to $91,661 from 1 July 2026) are exempt from fringe benefits tax when packaged through a novated lease. That exemption is being phased out in two steps.

  • Until 31 March 2027 — full exemption, unchanged, for any Geely EX2 grade.
  • From 1 April 2027 — full exemption continues only for electric vehicles under $75,000. Above that, up to the luxury car tax threshold, a 25% FBT discount applies instead.
  • From 1 April 2029 — the full exemption ends. A 25% discount applies to all eligible vehicles.

Leases already in place are grandfathered: a lease entered into before a phase start date keeps its treatment for the term.

Where each grade sits: both Geely EX2 grades price well under the $75,000 line, on both RRP and drive-away estimate. COMPLETE ($26,490 RRP, $29,692 drive-away) and INSPIRE ($30,990 RRP, $34,327 drive-away) both keep the full FBT exemption right through the 1 April 2027 change, and only move to the 25% discount tier once the exemption ends entirely on 1 April 2029.
